I'm seeing schools treating behaviour, SEND strain and safeguarding pressure as separate issues.
In many settings, they are symptoms of something deeper: the system is losing continuity.
Continuity is the relational and environmental steadiness that helps children and adults stay regulated enough to learn, lead and recover.
When it starts to fray, the “break” rarely shows up first as a headline outcome. It leaks into:
- cover volatility
- rougher transitions
- safeguarding queues
- Leadership bandwidth is being quietly drained
- Family trust is becoming more reactive
That’s why I keep coming back to this principle:
Continuity is the KPI nobody measures – until it breaks.
