Hi Reader,
You may have a child or learner who looks as though they are coping.
They arrive at school.
They get through the lessons.
They follow enough of the routine to avoid becoming the obvious concern.
At home, something very different may be happening.
The morning begins with refusal, panic or shutdown.
After school, the child falls apart.
Parents are managing arguments, tears, slammed doors, screen-time battles and the growing fear that tomorrow will begin exactly the same way.
School receives the long email, that family may already have lived through hours of pressure nobody else witnessed.
Sometimes the email is not the problem.
It is where the pressure finally becomes visible.
Your child or learner may be holding it together in school while their family is holding everything else together at home.
When parents need a different kind of support
Schools cannot and should not be expected to solve every difficulty a family is facing.
But you may be the first person to recognise the pattern:
- difficult school mornings or school avoidance;
- a child who appears fine at school and falls apart at home;
- after-school crashes, meltdowns or shutdowns;
- masking, sensory overload or demand pressure;
- repeated conflict followed by guilt and difficult repair;
- a parent who cannot tell whether they are seeing defiance, distress, overload or an unmet need;
- communication between home and school becoming strained.
A good referral does not move the parent somewhere else because they are difficult.
It gives them an appropriate place to think, understand what keeps happening and find one practical next step.
This is where SENSE Friends may help
SENSE Friends is a calm, practical support space for UK parents and carers, particularly those supporting neurodivergent pre-teens and teens through repeated hard moments.
The work starts with one moment that keeps breaking down.
We look at when it happens, what the child may be carrying, what the parent is carrying, what increases the pressure and what helps—even slightly.
Then we identify one small Calm Bridge™ that fits the child, the family and their real capacity.
The aim is not perfect parenting.
It is a more workable next version of the same moment.
SENSE Friends can help parents:
- recognise repeated pressure points;
- understand what behaviour may be signalling;
- find calmer, clearer language for difficult moments;
- protect connection while maintaining appropriate boundaries;
- prepare for conversations with school;
- recognise when additional professional help may be needed.
It is practical parent/carer support, not therapy, diagnosis, clinical care, crisis response, legal advice or statutory safeguarding support. It works alongside appropriate school, SEND, health, social-care and safeguarding routes.
A sentence you can use
You do not need to diagnose the problem or sell the support.
You could simply say:
“I know you are carrying a lot around the moments before and after school. Naomi at The HRologist | AmbiSense®️runs SENSE Friends, a calm and practical parent-support space that helps families understand one repeated pressure point without blame. I can share the information if it would be useful.”
The parent remains in control of whether it feels right for them.
Would the overview be useful?
If one parent or family came to mind, reply PARENT and I will send you the short, shareable SENSE Friends overview.
No confidential details are needed.
No pressure. No fear-based referral. No promise to fix the child.
Just a clear support option for a parent who may need less shame, more understanding and one practical place to begin.
Kindest wishes, Naomi Withers Founder of The HRologist. Creator of AmbiSense®️
